EVERYTHINGKISS/KOLLECTIONS
MICHAEL DEWAN
Location: Melbourne Australia
How long have you been a KISS fan for, what was the first KISS record you heard? I have been a dedicated KISS fan since I was seven years old and still as strong as ever. The very first KISS album that opened up my world was DESTROYER. That cover just blew me away and, of course, the songs. The impact they had on me was immense, my father always thought that KISS was interfering with my school work and grades and sometimes I had to take down my posters for as punishment. Haaaa! I’m now 42 years old and have been collecting for many years, and have a dedicated room for all of my KISS goodies. I have items in storage but need another house extension, I think, to display my collection. I went to the KISS concert at VFL Park (in 1980) and that was it for me, everything was KISS! KISS! KISS! as you can see in my photo, I’m all dressed up and ready to rock!
What was the first bit of KISS merchandise you bought? It’s hard to remember my first bit of KISS Merchandise but I’m thinking cassettes and cards that were sold at milk bars (For our international readers a milk bar was the Australian equivalent of a corner store that specialised in milkshakes, candy and arcade games - Ed). Also badges would be included in that.
What is your favourite piece you own, and which is the most rarest? Really hard to pinpoint my favourite piece of KISS that I own as I love them all, but if I had to pick one, I think my KISS
Disco Bag that was at the Royal Melbourne Show, I have this complete and it displays well. And very proud of my vintage badge collection. I have a large record collection with all variant covers and different pressings from all over the world. I have many rear kiss items and I think my complete ORIGINALS 2 with masks etc from Japan is one of my favourites.
What KISS rarity would you most like to add to your collection? The only KISS item that I don’t have, and I’m working on it, is the KISS pinball, it is such a great machine and I think is the number one KISS talking point.
What do your family or partner think of your obsession? My wife understands my passion and my son, soon to be another KISS Army member is overwhelmed by my collection.
