How long have you been a KISS fan for? I have been a fan since 1978. My earliest memory of KISS is when I was four years old. My dad and I went into a record store so he could ask for directions. As I was standing there holding his hand, I happened to look to my side and there was the DRESSED TO KILL LP cover sitting eye level on the rack, and right in my face. I remember just staring at the cover and wondering why their faces looked like that. I became a true KISS freak after seeing them on the TV show 'Solid Gold'. I remember the video for 'I Love it Loud' having an impact on me too.
What was the first KISS record you heard? The first record I heard was the GENE SIMMONS Solo LP. When I was four years old, my older step-brother got a copy on record. When I saw the cover art and heard the laughing in the intro to 'Radioactive' I got sucked into the void and I never came back.
What was the first bit of KISS merchandise you bought? The first items were bought for me. I asked for a KISS record for my fifth birthday and I got the PETER CRISS Solo LP (to this day I am the only person I know who loves that album from beginning to end). In 1981, I wanted to be Gene for Halloween and for the school Halloween parade, so my parents bought me a Gene Simmons costume. Surprisingly, they could still be purchased new at that time. Around the same time, my older step-brother gave his KISS puzzles and LPs to my youngest brother and I because KISS ceased to be cool with kids his age at that time. The first piece I bought with my own money was the 'Tribute to KISS' magazine in 1987
What is your favourite piece you own, and which is the most rarest? I can't pick one favourite piece because in my mind the whole collection is one piece. My rarest items are a (band and/or management rejected) 1970's prototype candle (see left) that was submitted by the original artist to be considered for production, a 1978 kids (size 8) denim vest by Image, #241 of 500 (framed limited edition) autographed PSYCHO CIRCUS lenticular poster, and a full set of "Dream Series" Hard Rock Cafe' pins (only 100 of each was ever made).
What KISS rarity would you most like to add to your collection? I would like to get my hands on a Bally KISS Pinball Machine and/or original stage used items
What does your family or partner think of your KISS obsession? My dad and my youngest brother are the only ones who show any interest when I talk about KISS or KISS collecting. The rest of them don't really understand, but they are cool with it because they know that collecting and researching KISS is what keeps me out of trouble.
