BUBBLE GUM CARDS: NEW SERIES
1980, DONRUSS
This set of 66 contained 21 revised cards including eight Eric Carr cards and a mixture of other members and group shots from 1979/80. Many of these were from the New York Palladium show depicting Eric with his original version of the Fox makeup. The backs, this time, made up a poster of the band from 1980 (similar to the Unmasked World Tourbook). One shot of Peter did remain (card #13... lucky?) - one of him singing ‘Beth’, perhaps to justify his appearance on the wrapper and box art.
These cards were featured in the official Aussie KISS magazine as being ‘Available from your milk bar, delicatessen and newsagent’. Oddly, all cards retained the 1978 copyright from the US set despite being manufactured in 1980. The wrappers were exact reprints of their US counterparts with no mention of local details. This series allegedly made its Stateside debut in 1984 when Donruss released their ‘Fun Packs’ featuring leftover cards from sports, TV, film
